Tehran – Iran and Turkey have agreed to expand bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector following high-level talks on the sidelines of a recent international summit, Iran’s Minister of Agriculture announced.

 

In a statement released on Saturday, Gholamreza Nouri said that he undertook a multi-day visit to Turkey before traveling to Kyrgyzstan to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting of agricultural ministers.

 

“During this journey, we held extensive talks with Turkish officials, particularly the Minister of Agriculture of Turkey,” he said.

 

The Iranian minister noted that agricultural trade between the two neighboring countries has seen a notable increase over the past year.

 

“We decided to sustain this positive trend. The Turkish side has also expressed its readiness to further expand bilateral cooperation,” he added.

 

According to Nouri, border and interprovincial matters were high on the agenda. He revealed that a delegation from a free trade zone will soon be dispatched to enhance interprovincial ties—a move that was welcomed by the Turkish side.

 

“Additionally, the establishment of a joint free zone between the two countries was emphasized during talks with Turkish national authorities and the governors of border provinces,” Nouri concluded.
